I’ve been craving comfort foods this week due to my, now diagnosed, sinus infection. At my Winter Savory Pie class recently, Jacqueline Church taught us to make a quick dinner by using ingredients on hand or leftovers. So I whipped up five mini chicken pot pies for a quick and hearty family dinner. There isContinue reading “Chicken Pot Pies”

Turkish Yogurt Soup
I haven’t been feeling well recently thus my lack of motivation to bake. Unfortunately I suspect a sinus infection. My favorite medicine is a big pot of soup. We had a lot of home made yogurt that I wanted to use up. This a perfect soup to make when you want a fast dinner butContinue reading “Turkish Yogurt Soup”
Su Borek
I’m continuing my theme of making savory pies. For dinner tonight, I made Su Borek or water pastry. This is one of my favorite Turkish dishes. I have a round pan that we purchased at Sevan Bakery in Watertown, most likely for baklava. Su Borek 6 pieces of phyllo pastryApprox. 4 cups of crumbled fetaContinue reading “Su Borek”
Yummy Colors
But don’t eat them! We recycled crayons into chunky crayons into a rainbow of lovely colors. This is a project that I’ve been wanting to do since I became a mom but never did. The inspiration for these fun crayons came from cleaning out various closets and desks. I’ve been sorting through the myriad ofContinue reading “Yummy Colors”
The 92Y Pie!
So I signed up for another pie class at the 92 St Y with Kate McDermott. She’s doing a Snowy Day Coconut Chiffon Pie in early February. I love their classes as it is easy to pull together one pie. Plus the price is right!
Winter Savory Pies
Last night I attended an online cooking class through the Cambridge Center for Adult Education taught by Jacqueline Church to make winter savory pies. We made 3 pies in total – Shepherd Pie, Vegetable Turkey Pot Pie and a Chilean Pie called Pastel de Choclo – Beef and corn pie. The class kicked my butt!Continue reading “Winter Savory Pies”
Simit
Turkish Simit is one of our favorite breakfast treats for Sunday Turkish Breakfast. While these are a bit of work, they are easy and fast enough to whip for in the morning for a brunch.
Start with the Basics
In my latest pie book read, Pie, by Sara Foster, she suggests that you start with the basics. Starting with the basics for making pie crust is a good starting point for January in my year to perfect the pie. I’ve had great results with a pate brisee recipe but want to experiment with differentContinue reading “Start with the Basics”
Presents, Presents, Presents!!
I’ve been slow this year to start my pie crust experiments. However my New Year’s presents to myself were these goodies, and more, to help me become a baking master. As I make my way through the books, I’ll post notes and observations. Another goodie this week is another pie baking class at the CambridgeContinue reading “Presents, Presents, Presents!!”
One, two, Buckle
So I made another buckle today. I’m a big fan of using up extra ingredients so I was trying to finish some buttermilk that I had left from making a chess pie as well as some extra peaches, pears and frozen berries. During the winter, this is one of my favorite treats. Buttermilk Buckle 2Continue reading “One, two, Buckle”
