Which means spice things up! My son wanted to help me make croutons today. I told him that the recipe suggests that you could add a variety of herbs, garlic powder or paprika, etc., according to your tastes. He told me that he’d add pa’tazz to spice things up.
The result was these yummy homemade croutons. We used the ends of a lot of stale bread that I had frozen in the refrigerator. In case you didn’t know it about me, I’m always freezing the last bit of food to prevent waste. That is my secret to mixed berry pies. I always have a lot of berries that are over ripe but not spoiled.
But back to the croutons!
This recipe is for approximately on loaf of bread. I had the equivalent of 2 loaves so I doubled the oil mixture.
*Cut up the bread into cubes and put into a really large bowl.
*In a large measuring cup, mix 1/2 cup of oil. I used olive oil but it could be cooking oil or butter.
*Add 1 teaspoon each of garlic powder, dried basil, oregano, thyme and paprika.
*Add the oil mixture to the bowl of bread, tossing gently to cover.
*Place the croutons onto a baking sheet. Bake for 10-15 minutes at 350 degrees F.
